Parks and gardens in Lyon

Lyon keeps adding green spaces: the Parc de la Tête d'Or, the Parc de Gerland, the Parc des Hauteurs and many small neighbourhood gardens. Every year the Mois des jardins opens gardens to the public.

The big parks

The Parc de la Tête d'Or, in the north, covers about 117 hectares and is one of the city's busiest places, with its lake, rose garden, greenhouses and zoo. The Parc des Hauteurs stretches across the Fourvière and Saint-Just hills. The Parc Blandan is more recent.

Parc de Gerland

Set along the Rhône on a former industrial site, it takes in the stadium and the sports hall. It has themed gardens, including a mégaphorbiaie, a stand of tall wetland grasses, coloured lighting at night and a few allotment gardens.

Neighbourhood gardens

Inspired by New York's pocket gardens, these small gardens of 200 to 1,000 m² were designed by landscape architects and artists. The one in the 6th arrondissement, imagined by Patrick Blanc, evokes a tropical forest.
